Aki Debayo-Doherty is the founding managing partner of Hammatan
Ventures L.L.C., an international telecommunications and financial
advisory consultancy based in Vienna, VA, U.S.A., with branch
offices in London, U.K and Lagos, Nigeria. Hammatan has 5 principals
and over 50 associates. Hammatan currently provides management
consulting services to global operators such as NTT Communications,
Japan; Comcast Corporation, USA; Neuf Telecom, France; MTN Group,
South Africa; and Telefonica, Latin America.
Prior to this, he was President of Teligent International where
he led the successful tender for spectrum licenses in Germany,
France, Spain, Argentina, UK, and Hong Kong. He also formed fixed
wireless joint ventures with European and Asian facilities based
providers such as Jazztel, Mannesmann Arcor, LDCOM and HK-Net,
a subsidiary of NTT. In the process of forming these joint ventures,
Mr. Debayo-Doherty met with and established relationships with
several key European, Asian and Latin American CEO's as part of
the evaluation for potential business synergies. Mr. Debayo-Doherty
sat on the Board of all the joint ventures and was instrumental
in appointing all the senior officers. He previously served on
the Advisory Board for Africa Investment Council for O.P.I.C.,
which has a $4B investment program.
Prior to joining Teligent, Mr. Debayo-Doherty was Program Director/General
Manager for Cable & Wireless Global Markets based in London,
UK, where his team designed and completed the development of a
voice and data network in 28 countries. Mr. Debayo-Doherty pioneered
the recruitment of key telco players like Telecom Italia-TMI,
Mannesmann Arcor, Singapore Tel, Tele 2, Telecom Malaysia, Optus,
and PCCW (HKT) to form a global VPN club that still serves the
needs of multinationals today. The UK based GIVN-Global Intelligent
Virtual Network team with the support of partners won such prestigious
accounts like IBM, Chase Manhattan, Andersen Consulting, and Compaq
(Digital Equipment).
Mr. Debayo-Doherty started his career at Sprint Communications
in 1986. He distinguished himself in several sales and sales management
roles with increasing responsibility. His last position at Sprint
was Director of Mid-Atlantic, which was a $250MM business responsible
for accounts like GE, Johnson and Johnson, BMW, and Hershey Foods.
He was recruited away by Cable & Wireless USA where he ran
the P & L for national sales operations for the $600MM enterprise
market with a staff of 1200 people and was an officer of the company.
Mr. Debayo-Doherty received a BA in Biology from Hofstra University
in New York and completed graduate studies in Biochemistry at
Columbia University in New York. He was also the founder and first
president of the Xi Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
at Hofstra University. He has had extensive executive management
training including Thunderbird University in Arizona and Insead
in France. Mr. Debayo-Doherty is a member of the Executive Committee
and Board of Trustees at The Langley School located in McLean,
VA.
